The beautifully restored schoolhouse is nestled beside the church and offers three bedrooms-one with queen bed, one with king bed and one with two twin beds which may be placed together for a king.The kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances including a dishwasher. All cooking utensils are provided. There are two bathrooms with showers. Towels, linens and beach towels are all included. The spacious deck has a patio set and grill. There is a chiminea fireplace for fun and relaxation.
Enjoy supreme relaxation on this tranquil island with few visitors and even fewer vehicles. Take a long walk, bike ride or spend the afternoon at Front beach or Parks beach. a quick boat ride takes you to the mainland and access to activities such as a visit to the Glen Breton Distillary home of North America's first single malt whiskey, biking walking or running on the Celtic Shores Trail or hiking trails at Cape Mabou Highlands; Cabot Links a new world class golf course; a day trip on the Cabot Trail, or tour scenic Celidh Trail and explore the region steeped in Celtic tradition and music. There are five sandy beaches in Port Hood which boasts the warmest waters north of the Carolinas.
If you want to experience a world of it's own then this is the place to visit. Originally settled by Protestant Loyalists, by the 1950's Port Hood Island had 28 families, mostly fishermen and small lot farmers. Now the island is mainly lived on during the summer months. Many of the visitors have prior connections to the island.The Margaret Ann Schoolhouse had two rooms and an apartment for the school teacher. It held grades 1-9 and was used for three generations. It now serves as a residence for summer visitors.
A complimentary boat ride to and from the island is included in the price as well as a ride to and from the wharf to the schoolhouse. Additional boat rides and a "taxi" on the island can be inexpensively arranged. If you have your own boat there is a wharf for your use on the island.
